Guided Volcano Summit Hiking Tour with Cable Car description
Ascend to the summit craters of Mount Etna, one of the most sought-after hiking experiences. Accompanied by a professional guide, explore the awe-inspiring landscapes of Europe’s highest active volcano, reaching an altitude of nearly 3,000 meters.
Your journey begins at the Sapienza Refuge in Nicolosi, where you’ll take a cable car up to 2,504 meters. From there, embark on a 1.5-hour hike uphill, passing several craters, including those from the 2001 eruption, and traverse the unique, lunar-like terrain. Along the way, enjoy plenty of stops for photos and rest.
Continue your hike towards the Cisternazza and Belvedere viewpoints, offering breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Valle del Bove—a volcanic depression formed 64,000 years ago. From here, take a moment to soak in the stunning views, stretching all the way from Taormina to Syracuse along the coast.
Next, head toward the Barbagallo craters, the highest point you can reach on the tour at nearly 3,000 meters. From this vantage, marvel at the summit craters, with their continuous emissions of gases and vapors.
Afterward, descend to 2,500 meters and return to the cable car station for the ride back to Rifugio Sapienza.
Experience the thrilling sensation of standing on top of the world, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the volcanic landscape and the vast sky above.
